Collateral Damage is an installation replicating Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks as it hangs on the walls in The Art Institute of Chicago. All the measurements, sizes, and colors in my installation are based on the original piece and its environment.
Collateral Damage is about both appreciating and questioning Nighthawks, the way it is being shown, and the way it is being presented to me. Mirroring my perspective of one of the most discernible paintings in American art, it is an analysis of displaced cultural values and an annihilated identity in the face of conflict.
